A Facial

A friend of mine has been going to beauty school and invited me to have a free facial done. I have to say, it was really great and incredibly relaxing. While I was there, I got microdermabrasion done, which is also amazing.

After we were finished up, I asked her how much a treatment like that would go for a paying customer, and the answer made my ears fall out. Except not literally, because that would be weird.

I really liked having the microdermabrasion treatment done, but there was no way I was ever going to pay so much to regularly have it done. So I did a bit of research and found that you can actually purchase the machines online and do it yourself! There are some recommendations and reviews here. I am not even kidding to say that I am legitimately considering this option. They are a little on the pricey, but in the end I figure it will be an investment for something that will give me years of brilliant skin for free. I don't know. I really want one!

My New Routine

I have developed a very simple skin care routine that I have been implementing for several months. I'll probably adjust and do more, but for now, keeping it simple is working for me. After doing this skin care routine daily since the summertime, I have noticed that my skin has improved tremendously. All of the break outs on my face have completely cleared up, although I wasn't suffering from acne or anything, it is certainly an improvement. I don't have wrinkles or anything like that, so no changes there. Although I am hoping that continued care of my skin will help me age better as time goes on. So on to what I do!

I used to have a morning routine, but I found that this much treatment to my face was drying me out, so in the morning, I simply wash my face with cold water. I don't use any products aside from a moisturizer that contains SPF.

At night is when all of the fun begins. I wash my face first, with cold water. If the cold water is way too cold, I add a little warmth to it, but for the most part, cold water seems to be best for my face. I use a cleanser to wash my face. I was using Neutrogena before, but they stopped making the product I liked, so I've switched over to Cetaphil, which I'm really enjoying!

After my face is cleansed, I dab on a bit of witch hazel as my toner. Then I sort of flap my hands in a strange way in front of my face so that it gets nice and dry. Then I add a bit of moisturizer on my face. At night I use Ponds cream. I freaking love this stuff. It's way inexpensive, and SO moisturizing without leaving any oiliness on my face. It is absolutely fabulous. All of these products can easily be found at target.com

That's pretty much all I do. Like I said, simple but effective.

Focusing on Skin Care

For years, I had essentially stopped worrying about whether or not my skin looked good. Well actually, I hadn't stopped because I hadn't started. I never took care of my skin growing up and now well into my 20s I am beginning to realize that skin care is important. The last thing I want to do is turn 50 and realize that I look awful because I wasn't taking care of myself. As is usual with me, paying better attention to my skin is causing me to become obsessed with skin care and beauty products. There is so much to choose from, and I want to try everything! I can honestly say, I'm really excited to experiment with all of the things that are going to help me take better care of myself.
